Our Story
Did you know that Capital Tractor was originally called “The General Store?” Don Greer opened for business in 1982, selling farm supplies (and a few hogs) next to his dad’s stockyard in Montgomery.
By 1985 he was selling more International Harvester tractor parts than farm supplies, so he changed the name to “Capital Tractor.” One thing led to another, and by the mid 90’s, Kubota tractors filled the lot. Growth was slow but steady. “Second mile service” and “Doing the next right thing,” compounded over time. By the early 2000’s, Capital Tractor was well-known as a reputable equipment supplier in the Montgomery, AL area.
Over the next 15 years, Kubota, Land Pride, and Vermeer all expanded their product offerings which in turn expanded our customer base. By 2015 we were not only serving local farmers, but also landowners, city homeowners, commercial contractors, golf courses, rental centers, and governmental agencies. Business was good.
Between 2017-2021, we added 3 more locations in Brundidge, Mobile, AL, and Lucedale, MS. We consider it a privilege to work in these communities and are grateful for every opportunity we get to serve. Though our territory has expanded, our mission is still the same. “Second Mile Service.” 40+ years since opening day, we still exist for you, our customer. Thank you for everything!
